Inspired.

I was catching up on my favorite blogs tonight. Big A is busy taking Sissy to and fro tonight with gymnastics and dance class. Little Lady is asleep in her bed. I have time for me. So I read blogs. And I read my favorite blog, Enjoying the Small Things by Kelle Hampton. If you haven't read her blog, you need to. She is a wonderful mother and she inspires me on a daily basis. She is an incredible writer and photographer. Tonight her words resonated even more with me than usual, and I'm not sure if it's because I actually have a moment to myself to truly soak up the words and their meaning or if it is because I just bought Little Lady a Layla Grace beanie so I'm already a little on the sappy side but I read this...
The concept of perfect is not flawless or four-point-oh. It's happiness. Happiness with all its messiness and not-quite-there-ness. It's knowing that life is short, and the moments we choose to fill our cup with should be purposeful and colorful. And that's perfection.
...need I say more. She sums it up right there. Thank you Kelle, when my house is dirty, when I have a baby that took off her diaper and then went to the bathroom, or a pre-teen being, well, a pre-teen, you put it into perspective. I have this great, big, beautiful life and I plan on cherishing every moment.

Things that are a given...

I love to clean my house. I try to get at least one chore done a day plus the general daily top to bottom pick up that I do. As I stay at home now, I have come to notice that no matter how much I get done there will always be the few things that are a given ....
1. You can always find shoes throughout my house - on the stairs, under the coffee table, in the playpen, etc.
2. There are always three blankets on the couch and no matter how many times a day I straighten and fold them, when I wake up in the morning they are always in a cuddled up pile on the couch.
3. I can vacuum my little heart out but as soon as I put the vacuum away I will find at least one clump of dog hair.
4.I clean the kitchen on a daily basis but by the end of the day there are either dishes on the counter or in the sink.
I'm sure there are many more that I could think of. They say a womans work is never done and I'm beginning to see just how true that is.

Through the muck and the snow...

I posted Friday about the b-e-a-utiful day that we had with a trip to the park. Well, when you live in the midwest there is one thing that always happens but you never get used to. The weather can change in an instant. It was about 2 pm when Little Lady and I were at the park and it was about 70 degrees, at about 5 we went outside to plant tulip bulbs and the temp had dropped to somewhere in the 50's, then it started raining, then sleeting, then snowing. And we have had snow for the past two days. And what do you do when you don't want to go outside you watch movies. And I know I give Big A a lot of props on here but I just have to give hime some more. In the middle of the snowstorm and I mean the middle, Big A gets in the Jeep throws it into 4 wheel drive, makes his way to Wal-Mart and comes home with...drum roll please....my brand new copy of NEW MOON. I wasn't able to see it in the theaters so he made sure that I had it the day it came out. And may I say, it was SO good. And it doesn't help that you get to look at R-Pat either. :)

Being a stay at home mom...

I have always been more than thankful to be able to stay at home with my sweet baby girl. Taking care of my family is not only a joy for me but something I take much pride in. Today I was so wonderfully reminded of how blessed I am. Little Lady and I were out and about running errands. We were headed in the direction of Wal-Mart and I thought to myself that it is way WAY too beautiful today to be inside. So I headed in the direction of the "little zoo". We arrived only to find that it still doesn't open till April 1. Not to be discouraged, I took a look around saw a new park, pulled the Jeep into a spot and let Little Lady swing the afternoon away. After she was good and tired of swinging, we loaded back up and went to Wal-Mart. And this little moment of freedom, of realizing that I don't have to squeeze time with my kids and errands into a weekend reminded me of just how lucky and truly blessed I am. So thank you Big A for letting me stay home with our sweet little girl. You will never know how much those moments in the park mean to me.

How do you know?

How do you know when you have gone from having an immobile baby to an on the move soon to be toddler?
When you have gathered the same chunk of hair to be straightened over 5 times and that same chunk of hair is yet to see the straightener. Watch out world Little Lady is on the move and it's only just beginning. I need to get to the gym more so I can keep up with her! Gotta go, she's calling me!

March 17

Today is my Dads birthday and St. Pats Day. We had a fun filled day going to my hometown parade and visiting with Papa for his birthday.

Fathers I love you so much - Happy Birthday.

And in regards to St. Pats day, I will say that 11 years ago I was in Dublin for St. Patrick's Day and as much as I try to have fun here on St. Pats Day NOTHING will ever top that and I am so thankful my parents let me go on the high school spring break to Ireland. It was an experience I will never forget.

10 things...

I have seen on a couple different blogs people listing the top 10 things you don't know about them and people listing the top 10 things about their children. I have decided to both.

First, the top 10 things you may or may not know about me:
1. I am fearful of velour. Yes, I said fearful. The thought of velour sends chills down my spine and the touch of it makes me want to be sick.
2. I love thunderstorms but am ALWAYS afraid that they will turn into a tornado. My favorite time for a thunderstorm is early morning.
3. I have grown my hair out and donated it twice. I am currently growing it out again to donate again. I will continue to do so until I am unable to. I am lucky to be able to grow my hair long and its my little something I can do to try to make the world better for someone.
4. I loved cheerleading my whole life. I cheered in high school and college but only a few people from after high school know that I didn't make the squad my freshman year but was the first person from my high school to go on to cheer in college and on a scholarship may I add. Just proves that you can do anything you put heart into.
5. I met my husband at my first job after college. He was able to give "over rides" and when he was out on the floor I would find an account that needed an "over ride" just to get him to come to my computer.
6. I have had 4 cars in my driving life. I started out with a 1973 VW bug, moved onto a 1996 periwinkle Dodge Neon, bought my Honda Civic after college (which I still have) and bought a 4 door black Jeep Wrangler with Big A as our first big purchase as a couple.
7. I have the uncanny ability to remember what people were wearing at big life events but I can't remember what I wore two days ago:)
8. My daughter was a complete surprise. We were not planning to get pregnant when we did and I had myself convinced for three weeks that I had the stomach flu even though Big A and my mom were both saying that they thought I was pregnant.
9. I almost died during child birth. I ended up having to have a c-section and I was allergic to the drugs given in my spinal, had a severe anaphylactic reaction and completely stopped breathing. I was not stable enough to meet my daughter till nearly 4 hours after she was born.
10. My husband is 14 years older than me but we had no idea there was an age difference till we went out to celebrate a friends engagement (Miss Priss's mommy I'm talking to you:)) with them and we saw each others id's when we got carded.

Now for Little Lady's top 10 things you may or may not know about her:
1. She likes to play in her crib during the day but hates sleeping in it.
2. She has always loved her bath, it's her favorite time of day.
3. She is already a ham. She starts smiling and laughing the moment she sees the camera coming.
4. She will watch TV as long as its on Nick Jr. Her favorite is Yo Gabba Gabba. We dvr it and it gives me a guaranteed 30 minutes to get the kitchen cleaned every day. Her favorite Yo Gabba character is Toodee and she has a little stuffed Toodee that she sleeps with.
4. At my baby shower I received a bath set that came with a little plastic blue hippo. That same little plastic blue hippo is by FAR her favorite toy and must go with us everywhere.
5. She has only had one bottle of formula. This was when she was in NICU and I was not allowed to see her yet and she needed fed right after she was born.
6. She never learned to drink breastmilk out of a bottle so I have to be available for every feeding.
7. She can say Mama and Dada. She is working on Sissy and the cats name.
8. She started army crawling at 5 months but didn't crawl on all 4's till 7 months.
9. She can stand on her own but won't take a step on her own.
10. She hates baby food. She would prefer that I stop introducing food to her and just let her live off breastmilk, baby prunes, cheerios, baby green beans, and water in a sippy cup. But Mama doesn't want a picky eater so I bribe her with cheerios to try new things.

My new fave!

I don't post pics of my family a lot but I had to share this one. I'm absolutely in love with it. I don't think I'm the only one with cabin fever.

OMG- A new month

Two posts in one day, oh well! I just realized it was March 1. Time is flying. This month we have:

Big A's birthday

Papa's birthday

St. Patricks day

Great Gpa G's birthday

Cousin Allie's Birthday

Co-sleeping...

I just love co-sleeping. When Little Lady was first born she slept in the pack and play next to my bed. As she started to out grow the top level of the pnp I moved her into our bed and moved the pnp down to the living room to be used as her play pen. I have loved having her in bed with us, her cuddling up close in the middle of the night, waking up to her beautiful smile in the morning, what could be better. And while I do think that co-sleeping has attributed to her all night nursing at times, it's still nothing I will ever regret doing. Well, Little Lady is becoming more and more of a big girl. This weekend she cut the top 4 center teeth and she is starting to STAND independently. I think our co-sleeping days are coming to an end. I always knew deep down that it would happen before her first birthday but I think it snuck up on me. I knew that I didn't want to be crib training and weaning at the same time. So, Big A and I talked about it today and once the top 4 teeth have clearly made their arrival and she is no longer in pain from her teeth we are going to move her. Now, I know that it won't happen overnight but I know it will be good for the 3 of us. Little Lady can be more independent and Big A and I can have some much needed alone time.

My plan for the transition is to sleep on one of the camping cots in Little Lady's room for a couple days until she gets used to sleeping in her room. I have no intention of ever making her cry herself to sleep, just not my style. So, if there are any suggestions out there to help with the transition, let me know.
