Organization and a little party planning...

Yesterday Little Lady was playing in her room and I looked around and realized that it was still set up for a newborn and not for an almost mobile toddler. So with a little switch it, change it, rearrange it, I believe she has a toddler bedroom now. I scooted the bookshelf a little down the wall and kept the lion rug in front of it since we use that as her reading rug where we read books. I moved her animal foam mats into the corner in front of her big window and made quite a large play area for her and sectioned it out with some of her larger toys. Moved the changing table next to her closet so it's kind of like her "dressing" area. So, after about an hour of Little Lady looking at me like I was crazy moving rugs and toys about, the finished product is awesome and she spent the rest of the day happily playing with her toys and checking out what was going on in the neighborhood from the stoop of her windows! It is amazing what a little organizing and rearranging can do!

And now for the party planning...We are going with a luau theme for Little Lady's first birthday. I had my good friend design her birthday invites and they turned out great. You can check out some of her awesome work here. I was online yesterday looking for decorations and what not and decided that I should check out Oriental Trading because I had used them in the past for good party decor - cheap! I looked at their luau items and would you believe that I found luau party themed items with duckies on them. Duckies are Little Lady's favorite BY FAR. She loves Ming Ming from The Wonder Pets, has a few rubber duckies, and can also very clearly say duck. In fact, in her world, all birds are a duck! I am so happy that I found something that matched the theme I chose and her personality so perfectly. So, it's not even May 1 and I got the invites and the decorations off my to-do list. I hope that I can be this organized for all her birthday parties.

First girls weekend as a party of 3...

This weekend my mom, Little Lady, and I had our first girls weekend. My mom and I have always had girl weekends where we take a short weekend trip and just hang out and catch up. This weekend was our first one with Little Lady in tow. We went to Omaha and I must say that my Little Lady is going to be a GREAT traveler because there were very few tears while she was stuck in her car seat. When we first arrived we went to the downtown area of Omaha. I was amazed. I thought that Omaha was a little city. I had no idea the downtown area would be so nice. We walked around on the bumpy sidewalks that Little Lady I'm sure thought were created just for her amusement in her stroller, checked out little boutiques, and ate "city style" pizza bought by the slice. It was a great afternoon. We then headed back to the hotel room and of course we had to hit the pool. Little Lady LOVES water and she squealed with delight the whole time she was in the pool with only one small coughing incident:) The next day we were up and at it pretty early, thanks to my girl, and off to the zoo we went. Omaha has a fantastic zoo. We stayed there all day! Little Lady liked the animals but I think she enjoyed the waterfalls most! This girl LOVES water. We got to see lots of different animals and a baby gorilla that was born a little after my girl which was neat because we got to see how different/similar the growth of the two babies is. Little Lady also enjoyed a sno-cone and a carousel ride! It was a great time. Monday we packed it up and headed back home and once again Little Lady was a fantastic traveler. It was a great start to the beginning of many girls weekends as a party of three!

First Official Playdate

Little Lady had her first official playdate today, 04/12/10. What made this a very special playdate is that the mommies and I had never met in "real" life. When I was 5 weeks pregnant I joined an online community of women. There were subgroups within the group and I settled into my online home of June 2009 Mommas. We were there every step of the way for our entire pregnancies, delivery, and every late night, breastfeeding issue, infant milestone since. We are scattered throughout Canada and the US. One of the mommies lives a few hours away and had told me about a month ago that she would be in town so we made plans right then to get together. Last week, I found out that another one of the mommies lives in the same area, can you believe...So we met up at the little zoo today and had a great time and hopefully we will get to meet up more. I would love to travel to meet more of my online "sisters", we truly have become a little family of mommas!

First Steps

Well, she did it. Those first few, beautifully coaxed steps! I'm very happy and proud that she is moving upward and onward but also sad that my little baby seems to be becoming more of a toddler. Yes, she is only 10 months old - today in fact. But I think that since she has an older sister and older cousins and really isn't around other babies that much that she thinks she is a big girl and not a baby. Than I think of how we got her to walk and I realize, yes Mama, she is still very much a baby. How did we coax those 6 steps out of her, you ask..."Little Lady, where's your booby?" and she walked right to them:) We of course thought this was hilarious so we continued to do it every time she stood up. She still prefers to crawl to her toys but I swear if you ask that girl where her booby is she just might take off running.

Tulips and a warm weather pledge...

A couple weeks ago I bought and planted 20 tulip bulbs. Since I bought bulbs in the spring I made sure that they had gone through a "fake" wintering process to guarantee that I would get some tulips this spring. Every day I go outside with Little Lady and we check on the tulips. Yesterday I saw two popping through the mulch. Today we saw two more. I'm thinking that maybe in a month I will actually have some tulips out front and when I do I'll have to take a picture and put it on here, because even though I bought 20 and planted 20 we will have to see how many actually make it!

Second, last summer I barely ever took Little Lady outside. Maybe a walk here or there but not much. Maybe it was because I was having a new mom moment and was afraid to take her outside, who knows?!?! What I do know is that I am loving the warm weather and the outside and Little Lady loves it even more. So my pledge to her is that we will go outside every day that we can. Whether it be a walk around the block, playing in the front yard, swinging in the park, or trips to the zoo. We will be outside every sunshiny, warm weather, fun loving day!
