As a big rear-facing advocate, I'm so happy to see the new car seat recommendations that came out today. Hopefully parents can put the safety of rear facing above the convenience of forward facing so that children can ride safer. Linked is the article and new guidelines from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - check it - and keep your kids safe:

Our doctor recommended that we turn Kepple around to forward facing as soon as he A: was one year past his due date B: at least 20 lbs AND C: began straining his neck to turn to see what was going on in the front seat.
ReplyDeleteHe explained to us that when they are turning their heads it puts them at an much more unsafe angle than it would to just turn them around. We put Kepple forward facing as soon as he met the first two requirements because he was so darn curious about what was going on up front. I feel like as long as they are at a healthy weight and age, they are fine facing front as long as they are in the center of the back seat. Just a thought, but each parent should make an informed decision and do what they feel is right for their own little person.
