The great breastfeeding debate.
I have been going back and forth as to what I was going to do when Little Lady turned a year old. I have been trying to get her to drink whole milk from a sippy and she is doing better but still does not drink nearly enough for me to stop breastfeeding nor is she mentally ready to give up breastfeeding at nap and bed time. I have done my research and I have finally come to weaning decision that I think will work best with my family and lifestyle. I have decided to delve into the world of extended breastfeeding. I figure if the World Health Organization can recommend it than it is good enough for me. I have developed a weaning plan and it is very fluid and Little Lady led with the goal of being COMPLETELY off the breast between 18 months and 2 years. My first step is to night wean and I will be beginning that after the birthday party. I will be following Dr. Gordons night weaning method. I am hoping to have this completed by 15 months. Also by 15 months I am hoping to have her on the breast soley for going to sleep. For months 15-18 I plan on slowly taking the breast away for naptime. And after 18 months taking it away at night time. It may go faster depending on how she does with whole milk. It may go slower. But I am willing to put the work in and continue to nourish my daughter and wean her in a way that is not stressful on either of us. I know that I will probably get many questions of disbelief and looks of "what in the heck is she doing?". But I'm doing what is best for my child, nuff said.
